Two months after Chavista fraud Josep Borrell says Nicolás Maduro will be de facto president: “As it is now”

“Maduro will not be a legitimately elected president, and therefore we will not recognize his legitimacy, he will not be recognized internationally. He will be the de facto president as he is nowwhich, through the army and the police, controls the power, controls the territory, suppresses dissidence,” said the politician in a dialogue with France 24at a time when, on the contrary, the triumph of Edmundo González Urrutia is increasingly accompanied by the international community.

He even used his intervention to message and crimes he committed Chavismo, typical of the management of a dictatorship, and regretted that at the moment “they exist more than 2,000 people arbitrarily detained after elections, the results of which we still do not know.” In fact, the latest report published by the NGO Foro Penal stated that 1,723 of them are deprived of their liberty solely for political reasons, representing “greatest number” of this type of imprisonment in the country so far in the 21st century.

However, as part of a worldwide protest called by María Corina Machado, 60 days before the election, Borrell assured that by January 10 – the planned date of the investiture – “there is a time when We must continue to work and support the opposition”, just as it had been until now, although he regretted that it had been so “with no hope of getting proof that will guarantee the election result that Maduro, as we know from the available data, did not win”.

For weeks, Western allies have been asking the regime to respect the will of the people, which includes mainly the presentation official record which reveal the actual results of the election and thus support the victory of this or that candidate. USA was one of the last to raise his voice this week when, through his Foreign Secretary Anthony Blinkenhe again asked to work on a diplomatic solution to this crisis.

During an event organized specifically to address the situation in the country within the United Nations General Assembly held in New York, Blinken called on Maduro to engage “direct dialogue with the united democratic opposition of Venezuela, leading to a peaceful return to democracy“.
