The patience of some drivers in Bogotá exceeds the limits of patience, and some even break the rules of the road in their desire to reach their destination quickly, regardless of the fact that they may endanger the safety of other road users.
This situation happened on one of the roads in the city of Puente Aranda, where a bicycle user decided to record on his mobile phone the foolish driver of a high-end truck who He did not flinch as he burst into the exclusive lane for bicycle users located along the Carrera 50 corridor in the jurisdiction of the city of Puente Aranda.

But this particular case was recorded a few meters from the exit to the Las Américas avenues, when the driver, who was going south-north, was surprised by a citizen on a bicycle who shared a video in which he watches a man face on board a private.
The top-of-the-range truck with the license plate KGT111 advanced a few meters, but then entered the mixed lane again, and at that moment the cyclist caught up with him and assured him with a mobile phone in hand: “How do they see the beauty of getting on the bike path?”
The case became known on the afternoon of Friday, September 27, 2024, it provoked various comments on the Internet, as Internet users were divided, as some believed that although the action taken by the owner of a private vehicle was not appropriate, Cyclists also make inappropriate maneuvers.
“With all due respect, I know it’s wrong for a truck to occupy that lane, but when bicycles occupy that lane, they don’t say anything”; “but if cyclists don’t use it because they pass through anywhere,” or “So that cyclists can realize what it feels like when you have a bike lane and they’re riding in the traffic lane”are some of the messages that were found in the video posted on Facebook. Discomfort with the behavior of drum users is evident in these examples.
“But because it’s a high end truck with tinted windows, Toyota and they are UNTOUCHED, no, no, how sad”; “He thought it was an exclusive lane for escort vans!”; and “you have to see that people are not respecting and where are the authorities” were some of the comments that criticized the maneuver this driver made.
However, the debate was widened in the publication where the video was published, given the perception among some citizens, which is reflected in people’s comments, that cyclists, despite having lanes Exclusive roads and cycle paths that cross the entire city, also continue be reckless and even cause accidents.
“The truck is taking up the wrong lane for him, but he’s attacking cyclists when they’re taking up car and motorcycle lanes and they don’t care.” wrote one of the people who does not agree with the way some bicicusarios proceed.
Similar cases occurred already in 2024 in the capital. In another incident, a driver was caught on video swerving into a lane to avoid traffic, sparking criticism on social media and calls for authorities to fine him.
The incident, which went viral and became known on February 20, 2024, once again put road safety and compliance with traffic rules in the Colombian capital at the center of the debate. The video shows the driver of a gray vehicle driving at high speed on a road designated exclusively for cyclists, endangering bicycle users in the passing areas.
The driver’s behavior was criticized by citizens who expressed their indignation and concern about the recklessness shown.
Disobeying the rules of the road and violating the dedicated lanes for cyclists by car and motorcycle drivers can represent a hard blow to the pockets of drivers who are surprised by traffic and traffic agents performing reckless acts, such as the truck driver did in Puente Aranda.
As established in the National Traffic Code, this violation classified as DO5 is penalized by a fine of 30 of the current legal daily minimum wages, which is equivalent to approximately 39 million pesos. The problem is not limited to the invasion of cycle paths; Drivers often drive on sidewalks, squares, footpaths, barriers, dykes and areas where it is prohibited, resulting in congestion and mobility problems.
At best, these events are nothing more than an argument or a minor inconvenience in traffic. However, in more extreme situations, this reckless behavior leads to serious accidents.
