A week of contrasting weather: forecast for Spain from 30 September to 3 October

Weather outlook for Tuesday afternoon

Spain is in for another week of weather contrasts, with the northern reaches of the country bracing for more rain, while the south will remain dry and sunny for now.

The presence of the Azores anticyclone just off Spain should guarantee near-stable weather in the southern half of the country and the Canary Islands. In the north and the Balearic Islands, on the other hand, a wave of high-altitude fronts will cause huge temperature swings and lots of showers.

According to the State Meteorological Service (Aemet), the coming week will be very miserable in Galicia, the entire Cantabrian coast and other parts of the north. In contrast, it will be slightly drier than normal for this time of year in the rest of Spain.

Between Monday and Wednesday, daytime temperatures will generally exceed 25ºC from Madrid downwards and even exceed 30ºC in the Guadiana, Guadalquivir valleys and the south-east of the country. On Wednesday and Thursday, the mercury could easily cross 32-34ºC in Murcia region, Alicantesouth of Valencia, parts of Malaga, Grenade and Almeria.

Apart from the aforementioned rain and stormy episodes in the north, the rest of Spain can expect dry weather with partly cloudy or clear skies. Monday, September 30.

Periods of low morning cloud are also expected over the northern half of the Mediterranean coast and inland southeast, but these are expected to clear fairly early.

The temperature will rise overall but the rise will be more noticeable in the east.

A front is expected to pass through Spain and the Balearic Islands Tuesday, October 1stleaving cloudy or overcast skies with showers in Galicia that will tend to spread throughout the day in the Cantabrian region, the upper Ebro and generally in the north.

Another cloudy morning should give way to a generally bright day across the rest of the country.

The mercury will continue to rise along the Mediterranean and Cantabrian coasts, but could take a small dip along the Atlantic.

on Wednesday, October 2daytime temperatures will continue to rise sharply in the south, reaching the mid-30s in parts of Malaga; Murthy and Seville.

However, the approaching Atlantic low will leave very heavy rain and storms in northern Spain and the Balearic Islands. This rain could spread much weaker across the rest of the country – in fact, only the far south of the country will be spared, and even here skies will likely be mostly cloudy.

The weather should ease up quite a bit Thursday, October 3although there is still a good chance of rain in Galicia and Cantabria.

For a change, temperatures will tend to rise in the Canary Islands and the northwest, while elsewhere they will dip.
