The Venezuelan regime, an ally of Iran, has opened the door to Hezbollah terrorists, who are also heavily represented on the triple border between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

The Islamic Republic has long had close relations with Venezuela, since Hugo Chávez came to power. Maduro’s close ties to the Ayatollah regime have allowed the Persians to expand their military and financial presence in Latin America, primarily through Hezbollah.

Ties between Venezuela and Iran have strengthened since the presidencies of Ahmadinejad and Chávez in 2005. However, a strong support network for Hezbollah has long existed in Venezuela since the early 1990s.

But with the advent of Chavismo, its influence has grown considerably. Various investigations pointed to the former minister and vice president Tareck El Aissami – arrested today for corruption – as being responsible for infiltrating members of an extremist group. The official has been sanctioned by the United States and the European Union and is currently on the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Most Wanted List.
